Vision

During the Birth Centenary Celebrations of Professor V.K.R.V. Rao, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri B.S.Yeddyurappa came forward and granted a magnanimous grant to establish Digital Library at the Institute.  This digital library sets a vision to provide on-line direct access to knowledge and resources through our website to the readers world over.  We open this window on Indian text in general and for Karnataka in particular. This will be accessible freely to the academicians and researchers working all over the world on issues concerning Karnataka as well as the other regions of the country.  This is one of the unique libraries in social sciences and has links with many of the libraries in the State and in the country.  The library has choicest collection of books, documents and journals in all social sciences and endeavours to put as many as of these on direct access.

The Institute is committed to this mission to provide knowledge about social sciences to all those who seek such help.  The mission here is to create a digital portal with a free access to read searchable collections of books, theses, documents and rare materials in as many Indian languages as possible.  The access should be easy for any one who desires it.  This is a unique opportunity for all the social scientists world over and especially to those who are interested in the problems of India in general and Karnataka in particular.  We shall endeavour to provide access to all documents required for such purpose.  The goal of this experiment is to provide full access on a search basis to an optical character recognized digital documents.  We are grateful to the Government of Karnataka for such a positive step which will enhance access to knowledge by many.  This facility on hand provides free access to the knowledge resources whereas on the other, it will prevent frequent handling of rare and valuable documents to preserve them for posterity  We also look forward to extend our partnership with many research institutions having a similar vision and mission.

Goals

The immediate goal that set before us is to allow access to all researchers in social sciences to important material available across the partner institutions and also facilitate the partner institutions to share the knowledge bank available with us.  The first step in this digitization programme is to get as many books, theses, documents, journals and rare materials for the use of the researchers.  Our goal is to open this knowledge portal and the materials to all those who seek such help.
