Centre
for Decentralisation and Development is undertaking new and innovative
research on Poverty Alleviation in Karnataka in collaboration with the
University of Oxford and London School of Economics, UK, as a part of
DFID funded research consortium on Improving Institutions for Pro-Poor
Growth. The partner organisations in this consortium, coming from UK,
Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria, will be having their annual
meeting at the Institute during September 2-3, 2010.
As a
part of this meeting, a workshop on Policies for Inclusion in India and
Beyond will be held on September 2-3, 2010.
The
workshop is in two parts. The first part, on the afternoon of Thursday 2
September, is a public event in which Professor Maitreesh Ghatak, London
School of Economics, UK, will deliver a talk on “Delivery of Public
Services: Models, Experiments and Policy”. In this meeting, Mr. S V
Ranganath, Chief Secretary, GoK and Prof. N Prabhu Deva, Vice
Chancellor, Bangalore University will participate.
The
second part of the workshop, on Friday 3 September, is a full day of
interaction between academics and policy-makers. There will be three
sessions: health insurance, empowerment, and Children and Schools. In
each of three sessions, academics will briefly summarise research
findings. A practitioner or policymaker will be invited to comment,
followed by open discussion.
