Dr
Abdul Aziz spearheaded research in macroeconomic issues, regional
planning, decentralized governance and the economics of poverty, in
his capacity as Head, Department of Economics, Institute for Social
and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore (a position from which he was
recently retired). Dr
Aziz’s publications and books on the Karnataka Economy,
Industrialization, Externalities and State Policy and Regional
Development are regarded as standard texts. He also has to his credit, several articles in international
and national journals of economics.
As member of the Karnataka State Finance Commission, the High
Powered Committee for Redressal of Regional Imbalances and the
Karnataka State Planning Board, Dr Aziz has been involved in state
level and regional economic planning and decision-making. Dr Aziz has
guided several Ph D students of whom 14 have been awarded Ph D
degrees. He has presented
papers and keynote addresses at seminars and chaired several national
and international level seminars.
Dr
Aziz has served as a Consultant to World Bank, Asian Development Bank,
Swedish International Development Agency, Department for International
Development, India (DFIDI) and Wilbur Smith Associates.
